Keep getting back up…
If you don’t succeed quickly, that doesn’t mean you won’t experience amazing success. If you’re not good at something right off the bat, that doesn’t mean you can’t become great at it.
The first time I learned how to water ski it was a miserable experience. I couldn’t get up. After about 5 tries I convinced myself that I hated it and I no longer wanted to learn how to do it. This was my default when I wasn’t immediately good at something.
I swam back to the boat where My mom looked at me and calmly said, “You’re not getting back into this boat until you get up.”
I couldn’t believe she was making me do this. Then, a couple of tries later, I stood up and skied.
It wasn’t long before I was weaving back and forth behind the boat jumping over the wake. Some of my favorite summer memories are going skiing at the lake.
Now, when things in my life get hard and giving up feels tempting, I think about that day behind the boat.
Anything in life that is worth accomplishing is going to require grit. Fulfilling your dreams will take facing your biggest fears, quieting your pride, and multiple failed attempts.
Getting back up and trying again is how you become the version of yourself who accomplishes great things. Keep going. Don’t get back into the boat until you stand up.
You’re only a few more tries away.
